1. Metro
The metro system in Tbilisi is simple and effective, with only two lines: the first line (16 stations) and the Saburtalo line (6 stations). Originally built in the Soviet Union, it remains the fastest way to get around the city.
• Cost: 1 Gel (around 0.30 $) per ride, no matter the distance or transfers.
• Payment: You can pay with a contactless card (Apple Pay, Google Pay) or purchase a MetroCard (2 GeL) at any Metro station. The card can be topped up with any amount and is also valid for buses, minibusses and the cable car in the old town.
2. Buses and Minibuses
Greena nd blue buses operate around Tbilisi, as well as in larger cities like Kutaisi and Batumi. Minibuses (Lokally known as Marshutkas) also serve smaller routes.
• Cost: 1 Gel per ride, regardless of the distance
• Payment: By card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Metro card. Cash is not accepted on buses and minibuses.
• Tip: You can check routes on Google Maps or the official Tbililsi Transport Company website ttc.com.ge. Inspectors occasionally check travelers to see if they have the tickets. Fines for traveling without one are 50 Gel.
3. Taxis and Apps
Locals in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi mainly use Bolt for taxis.
• Tip: Avoid hailing taxis on the street, especially at the airport, as overcharging is common. Instead, book through the Bolt or any other apps for a fair price.
4. Railway
The Georgian Railway connects major cities such as Tbilisi. Batumi, Kutaisi and Zugdidi.
• Popular routes: Tbilisi – Batumi: Around 5 hours, a convenient way to reach the seaside. Tbilisi – Zugdidi: popular for travelers heading to Svaneti.

5. Intercity buses and Marshutkas
Intercity buses connect major cities, while minibuses (Marshutkas) are the main way to reach smaller towns and villages.

• Marshutkas: there are no tickets you can get before; you pay directly to the driver. Most marshutkas to western Georgia depart from Didube station in Tbilisi
6. Domestic flights
Although Georgia is compact, there are a few domestic flights available. The most popular is operated by Vanilla Sly, connecting Tbilisi to Mestia (Svaneti)
